Lakeshore Talent is currently seeking a Senior Manager of Payroll for one of their clients, a large company based in Denver, CO. This is a direct hire position and has a salary range of $103-142k depending on experience. Candidates will work a hybrid schedule (3 days in the office, 2 days from home).

Job Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Manager of Payroll responsible for planning, coordinating and managing the day-to-day payroll and timekeeping functions, following applicable government rules and regulations, company policies and procedures, and payroll best practices.  This position oversees payroll administration, methodically monitors all processes necessary to accomplish the company’s payroll processing objectives accurately and timely, and ensures accurate and high service-levels are consistently met.



  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing and related filings for provincial, state, federal and local jurisdictions, including all tax-related filings (monthly, quarterly, annually), and any other specialty reporting as necessary
  • Assist in design and implement of payroll procedural changes needed for compliance; ensure compliance with all applicable US & Canadian, provincial, state and federal and local wage and hour laws; complies with legal payroll requirements
  • Analyze, prepare and oversee payroll data; ensure accurate and timely payroll processing to meet customer needs and company objectives
  • Oversee accurate recording of payroll journals and payroll accruals in accounting system
  • Adhere to the control environment through clearly defined, and documented processes; update as necessary to maintain compliance
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports for management: gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.; provide additional payroll reporting as requested
  • Assist in administration of payroll systems (Ceridian Dayforce) including PTO
  • Assist in continuous improvement to drive payroll process efficiency and optimization
  • Assist to facilitate management and administration of payroll procedures
  • Communicate with employees and HR regarding employee questions/issues and requests
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable, US & Canadian provincial, federal, state and local payroll laws and regulations, and make payroll process updates as necessary
  • Partner with Human Resources to ensure accurate data, reporting, compliance and protocols are executed
  • Assists in defining payroll training programs
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Exempt and Non-Exempt professional employees
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and guidance to team with execution of projects; set performance goals, and provide on-going coaching of employees to achieve career objectives, cultivate a high performance culture; build a leadership pipeline throughout the organization
  • Set the example, create and lead the culture of mutual respect, cooperation and attention to detail for employees to deliver profitable execution on business goals
  • Conduct team meetings to review service level goals and coordinate/direct training of staff



Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent years of experience and education
  • 7+ years’ progressive multi-state payroll experience
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills to develop high performance team
  • Work experience with Ceridian Dayforce/ ATS
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills; work effectively under tight time constraints: manage concurrent demands to meet deadlines
  • Strategic and critical thinker: present innovative solutions to business challenges with foresight and “big picture” perspective
  • Self-starter; takes initiative to exceed goals and objectives
  • Project management experience
  • Business and financial acumen
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effectively converse with all levels of the company
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite; advanced Excel skills
  • Professional integrity and accountability

Required Certifications

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in Rail Transportation, Supply Chain Logistics, Manufacturing and/or Oil and Gas industries
  • Canadian payroll experience
