Lakeshore Talent is partnering with a growing workforce solutions organization to hire a Payroll and Bill Specialist for a fully remote, direct hire opportunity. This position is ideal for payroll and billing professionals who have experience supporting high-volume contingent workforces and client-specific payroll processes within the staffing, workforce solutions, MSP, or professional services industries.

Pay: $25.00 – $27.75/hour + Bonus Potential

In this role, you'll support multiple client accounts, managing payroll and billing across a variety of pay cycles while ensuring exceptional accuracy, compliance, and customer service. This role offers the opportunity to work cross-functionally with payroll, finance, HR, operations, and client teams while ensuring employees, subcontractors, and clients receive timely, accurate, and responsive payroll and billing support.
Responsibilities
- Collect, review, and enter employee and subcontractor time and expense information across weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly payroll cycles.
- Process payroll accurately and within established deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Support payroll and billing for a high-volume contingent workforce across multiple client accounts.
- Navigate client-specific payroll requirements, invoicing processes, and billing rules.
- Ensure payroll for varying payment terms is entered and processed on time.
- Track stop payments, rejected transactions, and process necessary payroll adjustments.
- Maintain accurate employee and subcontractor payroll records, including rate changes, garnishments, and other payroll updates.
- Review and respond to payroll and billing inquiries from employees, subcontractors, and clients with professionalism and urgency.
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, Operations, and Account Management teams to ensure payroll changes are processed accurately and efficiently.
- Enter and export payroll information into payroll processing systems.
- Collect and process VMS/MSP time entries for payroll and billing.
- Manage client-specific pay and bill activities, including updating payment trackers, processing received time, preparing invoices, and submitting billing through client portals or client-specific invoice templates.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients regarding payroll and billing matters.
- Monitor outstanding payments, follow up on delinquent accounts, and escalate concerns when appropriate.
- Prepare monthly payroll and billing accruals for unbilled or late time.
- Maintain service level agreements (SLAs) while balancing multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of payroll, billing, or related experience
- Multi-state payroll across the United States is required
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Payroll, or a related field
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Word
- Experience working with Vendor Management Systems (VMS/MSP) such as Fieldglass, Beeline, Coupa, or others is required
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Customer service-focused with a professional and solutions-oriented approach
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within the staffing, workforce solutions, MSP, RPO, PEO, EOR, or professional services industry
- Experience processing payroll and billing for contingent labor or contract employees
- Familiarity with multiple client payroll schedules, client-specific invoicing requirements, and VMS/MSP platforms
- Experience supporting high-volume payroll operations with strict processing deadlines
- International payroll experience
- PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) or similar payroll designation
