The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing financial reporting, grant management, and accounting processes for charter school customers. This role includes preparing annual financial reports, maintaining accurate general ledger and account reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with various education-related regulations.
Location: Lone Tree, CO
Schedule: Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote/week)
Salary: $75,000 annually
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare annual financial reports for charter school grants.
- Review general ledger and ensure conformity with the state charts of accounts for various schools.
- Create and post journal entries as needed.
- Ensure timely submission of state compliance reports.
- Write and rewrite grants, ensuring alignment with financial needs.
- Maintain a strong understanding of EDGAR regulations.
- Reconcile grants, payroll liabilities, and prepaid accounts.
- Submit Requests for Funds for state and federal grants.
- Attend CDE grant meetings and financial training sessions.
- Manage scheduling of financial due dates and board meetings.
- Review school financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
- Provide support to Staff Accountants.
- Assist with annual audit and budget preparations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience (required)
- Experience in education, nonprofit, public sector, or fund accounting (required)
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- Ohio Fiscal Officer (strongly preferred)
- Proficient in accounting software, specifically QuickBooks Online
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and complex formulas
- Comfortable performing month-end close, reconciliations, and journal entries
- Comfortable working independently and collaborating with a team
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret financial data and communicate clearly to non-financial stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Comfortable working with diverse stakeholders, including school leaders, board members, and auditors
- High level of integrity and discretion
