Clinical Risk Manager (RN)

A healthcare organization in Denver, Colorado is seeking an experienced Clinical Risk Manager (Registered Nurse) for a 9-week temporary engagement with the potential for extension.

Position Details

• Role: Clinical Risk Manager (RN)

• Contract Length: 9-week contract through March 31, with possibility to extend

• Start Date: Target start date of February 9

• Schedule: Day shift, Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

• Location: Onsite in Denver, CO

• Compensation: $50-58/hr depending on experience

Position Summary

Under minimal supervision, the RN Clinical Risk Manager is responsible for the clinical review and analysis of significant occurrences related to risk management, quality, and patient safety. This role plays a key part in the organization’s Controlled Substance Diversion Program and collaborates closely with leadership, regulatory bodies, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and investigate notices of claims, summons, and complaints; facilitate quality reviews and present findings with defense recommendations

• Serve as a liaison to claimants, attorneys, physicians, and internal stakeholders

• Determine reportable events and coordinate investigations and submissions to CDPHE

• Conduct in-depth investigations including interviews, chart audits, and documentation review

• Identify and manage sentinel events and near misses; prepare and present Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and risk reduction strategies

• Participate in disclosure meetings when required

• Support and expand the Controlled Substance Diversion Program, including audits, reporting, investigations, and collaboration with pharmacy and leadership

• Prepare monthly trend reports and audit summaries

• Assist with regulatory surveys (CDPHE, Joint Commission, CMS)

• Collaborate with law enforcement and security when criminal activity is suspected
  Act as backup support for subpoena processes and self-insured workers’ compensation matters

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program meeting Colorado State Board of Nursing requirements

Licensure

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado (DORA)

Experience

• 3–5 years of professional nursing experience in an acute care setting

• Prior experience in risk management, patient safety, or quality strongly preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to independently lead investigations and communicate findings to stakeholders

• Strong working knowledge of federal and state healthcare regulations

• Excellent analytical, written, and interpersonal communication skills

• Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
