Lakeshore Talent is in search of a Dietitian for a 6-month contract opportunity supporting a healthcare organization in Newport News, Virginia. This position plays a vital role in providing nutritional assessments, care planning, education, and dietary support for elderly and frail participants in a collaborative healthcare environment.

Position Details

  • Pay Rate: $28.85 – $36.06 per hour
  • Location: Newport News, VA
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM EST

Position Overview

The Dietitian is responsible for completing participant nutritional assessments and reassessments, developing individualized nutrition care plans, monitoring dietary needs, and providing nutrition education to participants, caregivers, and staff. This role collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure quality participant care and support.

Key Responsibilities

Participant Care

  • Develop and implement individualized nutritional Plans of Care and reassess participants every six months or as needed
  • Conduct nutritional screenings and assessments
  • Monitor food intake, therapeutic diets, and dietary modifications
  • Provide nutrition education to participants, caregivers, and staff
  • Recommend and order nutritional supplements as appropriate
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care planning meetings
  • Conduct home visits as needed
  • Document nutrition notes and participant progress in medical records
  • Communicate dietary concerns and updates with care teams and dietary staff
  • Support high-risk participants with specialized nutrition interventions
  • Assess food accessibility needs and coordinate referrals for meal support services

Administrative Duties

  • Conduct sanitation and kitchen safety checks
  • Monitor lunch and snack menu adequacy
  • Maintain diet lists, supplement sheets, and dining guides
  • Attend care planning, family, and wound care meetings
  • Assist with training new dietary staff
  • Participate in department meetings and in-service training
  • Ensure compliance with state food program regulations

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with elderly or frail populations
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to complete written assessments and accurately document participant care

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual skills preferred

Required Certifications & Onboarding

Candidates must complete all onboarding requirements prior to start, including:

  • CPR/BLS Certification (American Red Cross or American Heart Association)
  • First Aid Certification
  • Physical and medical clearance
  • TB test
  • Drug screening and background check
  • Additional compliance documentation and training acknowledgements
