Payroll Lead (US & CAN)
Hybrid | Brampton, ON
Direct Hire | $70,000–$80,000 CAD + Bonus
Lakeshore Talent is seeking an experienced Payroll Lead to join a fast-paced, collaborative organization supporting payroll operations across both Canada and the United States. This role is ideal for a highly detail-oriented payroll professional who thrives in a hands-on environment and has strong experience with multi-province Canadian payroll and multi-state U.S. payroll processing.
This position offers a hybrid schedule, competitive compensation, bonus potential, strong benefits, and the opportunity to support both corporate and large-scale contingent workforce payroll operations.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Process and audit bi-weekly payrolls for Canadian and U.S. employees
- Support payroll operations across all Canadian provinces and all 50 U.S. states
- Manage payroll changes including new hires, terminations, bonuses, retro pay, garnishments, and deductions
- Ensure payroll compliance with Canadian and U.S. payroll legislation, tax regulations, and labor standards
- Prepare and reconcile year-end reporting including T4s, RL1s, W2s, W3s, ROEs, and related filings
- Support quarterly reporting, payroll audits, reconciliations, and payroll-related GL activities
- Partner closely with HR, Finance, Payroll, and Tax teams to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing
- Assist with payroll system maintenance, testing, process improvements, and compliance initiatives
- Support payroll inquiries from employees, clients, and internal stakeholders with professionalism and urgency
- Assist with contingent workforce payroll operations and high-volume reporting activities
- Research payroll legislation updates and help implement compliance-related process changes
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of full-cycle payroll experience
- Strong experience processing:
- Canadian payroll across multiple provinces
- U.S. payroll across multiple states (all 50 states preferred)
- Experience working in high-volume payroll environments with multiple payroll cycles
- Strong understanding of:
- Canadian payroll legislation and taxation
- U.S. payroll tax regulations and filings
- Year-end processing and payroll compliance
- Experience with payroll audits, reconciliations, and reporting
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with professionalism
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications
- PCP, CPM, or CPP designation preferred or in progress
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience with Dayforce required
- Great Plains experience considered a strong asset
- Bilingual French/English is an asset
